Sonia Atanasova – the one who brings people together even when they want to split up.

Right after we met, she told me that the day she stops getting excited by the sound of Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March”, that will be her last day at work. So far there is no chance for that to happen. Sonia Atanasova is one of the designers for the Princess Fashion Studio and the owner of the Diamanti Wedding Agency. All her life she has been organizing events, from skipping classes to school festivals. Later on, she proved her love of design by successfully graduating from the College of Design in Blagoevgrad.
Before that she got married against her parents’ will. This year she is celebrating her 20th wedding anniversary to the same man while continuously helping others to get married.
Tell us about the most unusual wedding party you have organized?
There were many, because everyone who wants something more than the usual, comes to us. In that sense I completely understand the brides, because I am a great fan of the extraordinary myself. That is why I come up with the right concept for each couple, almost right away. Many years ago our agency was involved in a wedding on the beach. We even held a wedding on a ski slope where the couple said their vows as they skied
down the slopes then signed the wedding papers in front of the ski lodge at the bottom. Last year a bride shared with me her dream wedding in black and white and I told her: “I can imagine it right now; we can do it!”
How many divorce parties have you organized?
Three! People that have a party even when they get divorced or are about to get divorced, then they are broad- minded people. These sorts of people don’t have any financial issues and continue their lives as just being friends.
How did they get divorced?
We have just organized a party for one of them. They had already divorced prior to the party. It was just like a family reunion party, with the kids and all the relatives.
Love is …
Love is what life is all about. It makes the world go round. If a person can give and accept love, he or she is 100% blessed.
What is the most fashionable present for the newly married?
Each couple is regarded as individual, so our approach is always different. The gift is always supposed to be representative and special to the one who it is given to. One couple would be glad to have an ancient coin, another to have a parachute jump as a present. Of course, there have been cases when it was extremely important for the newly married couple to get a new apartment or the latest Mercedes. There was that one groom who was brave enough to go up in the mountains just to get an Edelweiss flower for his beloved one.
Is it not illegal to pick Edelweiss?
Yes, it is. But he really did it. He could have had one of the Edelweiss flowers sold in pots in Bansko, but his fiancй kept telling him: “If you really are he hero you say you are, then you have to get me an Edelweiss off the mountain.” By satisfying her demand, he showed how much he really loved her.
What is the biggest misconception that people have about your job?
Many people envy me, because of the job I have. But let me tell you that I pay the price for having this job every day. I work 24 hours a day, because I have to be available all the time. My heart shares the joy and tears with my clients and I live along with the brides.
What are you dreaming of right now?
For several months I have been dreaming of going into the forest to gaze at the trees in bloom and all the greenery. I feel this way maybe because it is spring and that is the only thing I miss at the moment.
